About batana oil

What is batana oil? +

Batana oil is a 100% pure oil cold-pressed from the nut of the American oil palm (Elaeis oleifera). It is traditionally harvested by the Miskito people of Honduras and is naturally rich in vitamin E, carotenoids, and fatty acids like oleic and linoleic acid.

Where does your batana oil come from? Is it authentic? +

Our batana oil is authentic, single-origin oil traditionally hand-harvested and cold-pressed by the Miskito people of La Mosquitia, Honduras. It is unrefined and single-ingredient: nothing added, nothing diluted.

Is your batana oil 100% pure and natural? +

Yes. Our batana oil is single-ingredient, raw, unrefined, and cold-pressed, with no fillers, fragrances, or additives.

What does batana oil smell like? +

Pure, unrefined batana oil has a natural earthy, slightly smoky and nutty aroma that comes from its traditional preparation. There are no added fragrances, and the scent is light and settles after application.

Using batana oil for hair, skin & beard

Does batana oil help with hair growth or hair loss? +

Batana oil is a cosmetic conditioning oil, not a medical treatment, so we make no hair-growth or hair-loss claims. What it does beautifully is moisturize and soften hair, add shine, smooth frizz, and condition the hair and scalp. Many people add it to their routine to keep hair looking and feeling healthy. Individual results may vary.

How do I use batana oil for hair? +

Warm a small amount between your palms, then massage it into your scalp and work it through to the ends. You can use it three ways: as a leave-in to tame frizz and add shine, as a pre-wash treatment for 30 minutes or more before rinsing, or as an overnight mask covered with a silk bonnet. Most people use it 2-3 times a week.

How often should I use batana oil? +

For most people, 2-3 times a week works well. Because it is a rich, buttery oil, start with a small amount and adjust to what your hair and scalp prefer.

What hair types is batana oil best for? +

All hair types: straight, wavy, curly, coily, kinky, and relaxed. Its rich, buttery texture makes it especially popular for thick, curly, and textured hair, and for smoothing dry, frizzy ends.

How does batana oil make my hair feel, and when will I notice a difference? +

Because batana oil is a cosmetic, it is all about look and feel: most people notice softer, shinier, more manageable hair from the very first few uses. Used consistently, it helps hair stay moisturized and frizz-smoothed. We make no claims about hair growth, and individual results vary.

Can I use batana oil on color-treated or chemically processed hair? +

Yes. Batana oil is a single, unrefined ingredient with nothing harsh added, so it is gentle on color-treated, relaxed, and chemically processed hair. Many people use it to condition and add shine between washes.

Can I use batana oil on my skin or beard? +

Many people do. As a rich, vitamin-E oil, it can be massaged into beards to soften coarse hair, or used sparingly as a moisturizer for dry skin and cuticles. Do a patch test first, and avoid use if you have a nut allergy.

Is batana oil safe? Are there any side effects? +

Batana oil is a natural, single-ingredient oil. As with any new product, do a patch test before first use. It is pressed from a palm nut, so avoid it if you have a nut allergy, and stop use if you notice any irritation. This is a cosmetic product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition.

Why is my batana oil solid, and how should I store it? +

Natural batana oil is semi-solid at room temperature and may firm up when cool, which is completely normal. Simply warm the bottle or a scoop between your hands until it softens. Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
